SUMMER SUN PROTECTION

Summer fun can’t be beat! We all love enjoying the pool, relaxing
on the beach, or strolling through shops with the ones we love. But there
are consequences if you’re not protecting yourself from the sun.

1. Did you know that one in five Americans will develop a form skin cancer
in their lifetime?

2. Each year there are more new cases of skin cancer than the combined
incidence of cancers of the breast, prostate, lung and colon.

3. Over the past three decades, more people have had skin cancer than all
other cancers combined!

These are not fun facts. Here’s what you need to know. The sun is
strongest between 10am-2pm, it emits cancer causing ultraviolet rays so
we have to use caution while enjoying our outdoors. The use of a broad
spectrum sunscreen with an spf of at least 30 will help protect you from
UVA and UVB rays.
Sunscreens with higher spf’s only
increase your protection
slightly so don’t rely on them to offer much more protection. Watch out for
reflective surfaces like sand, snow, and water these will increase your
exposure the ultraviolet cancer causing rays. Wearing hats, and protective
clothing is important. Finding shade, and reapplying sunscreen every 2
hrs or less and immediately after sweating or getting wet.
Prevention is key, skin cancer can be prevented with just a little care. Let’s keep
our summers fun and safe for you and your loved ones!
