Buccal Fat Removal

Cheek Reduction in Tampa, FL

Enhance your cheekbones and reveal a more sculpted look with buccal fat pad removal. Also commonly known as cheek reduction surgery, buccal fat removal is designed to reduce the cherubic, soft and round appearance of the cheeks.

If you’re considering a cheek reduction, schedule an appointment with Dr. Farrior, a master of his craft and double board-certified facial plastic surgeon who has practiced in Tampa for nearly 30 years.

This is a space with very little blood supply that is safe and easy to access. The purpose of the buccal fat is to occupy this space and create facial fullness. For this reason, the volume of buccal fat only changes modestly with weight loss or gain and cannot be eliminated by weight loss.

Dr. Farrior is a sixth-generation physician and distinguished facial plastic surgeon with dual board certifications through the American Board of Facial and Reconstructive Plastic Surgery as well as the American Board of Otolaryngology. He is highly sought after for his facial plastics expertise, including buccal fat removal.

However, if you prefer, it can be performed under general anesthesia, although this is seldom necessary. The buccal fat is about the size of a golf ball or ping-pong ball. And since buccal fat pad removal is minimally invasive, it can be performed with a number of other procedures, including rhinoplasty, facelift, cheek augmentation, chin augmentation and facial liposuction.

The incision requires no postoperative care and the sutures that are used dissolve on their own. From five-ten days postoperatively, there will be some swelling which causes your cheeks to appear rounder. After three weeks, the majority of the swelling will have resolved and improvement will be noticeable.
