Put the sparkle back in your eyes with facial plastic surgery

NewsletterThe "eyes" have it! Or do they? The eyes are the focal point of the face, and, for better or worse, have a tremendous impact on the way you look.

Eyes that sparkle convey a sense of youth and energy. Unfortunately, signs of aging often appear earliest around the eye. You may feel great, but your eyes may seem tired or sad.

If the natural sparkle of your eyes has begun to fade because of sagging brows, puffy or drooping eyelids, take heart. A number of facial plastic surgery procedures are available to revitalize your eyes and give you a fresher, more youthful appearance.

Treating sagging eyelids

Perhaps little folds of skin have begun to hang over your upper eyelids. Upper lid surgery can open your eyes and brighten your outlook. Tiny incisions are hidden in the natural creases above each eye. Excess skin and fatty tissue are removed and the incisions are closed with fine sutures.

A lower lid procedure may be recommended if you have puffy "bags" under your eyes. Incisions are made either inside the lower eyelid or in a natural smile crease below the lashline. Sutures dissolve or are removed after a few days. Upper and lower eyelid surgery may be done at the same time.

Eyelid incisions heal quickly and scars are nearly invisible. Friends may not even be able to tell that you've had eyelid surgery--although they are likely to notice that you are looking great.

Solving brow problems

Drooping eyebrows, saggings forehead wrinkles, or a perpetual worried look can overshadow your eyes--and make you seem angry or unapproachable. A number of techniques--all referred to by the general term "browlift"--are used to correct sagging in the forehead area. Browlift procedures can raise and reshape the eyebrows, lift and tighten the forehead skin, and relax vertical creases between the eyebrows.

Incisions for browlift procedures may be hidden in the eyebrows, the hairline, or in natural facial creases. If both your eyelids and your brows need treatment, the browlift procedure may be done at the same time as eyelid surgery.
